On March 30, 2007, a recent clinical analysis of clinical trial data identified the medication Zelnorm, a Novartis Pharmaceutical product prescribed for constipation, to cause cardiovascular ischemic events in patients taking the medication. These events included heart attack, stroke, and unstable angina, and occurred primarily in patients who had pre-existing cardiovascular disease and/or cardiovascular risk factors.

If you have been prescribed Zelnorm by your physician, immediately discontinue taking this medication and alert your physician’s nurse by calling the office where you are seen. The nurse will schedule an appointment convenient for you to see your physician to discuss other medication alternatives. To call our offices, dial 904-398-7205, and choose the appropriate office location.
